Laser Removal of Ingrown Hairs
Laser hair removal or ingrown hairs works by melanin pigment absorbing a
wavelength of light. This laser hair removal procedure works only on
pigmented hair, or people with brown or black hair. The ideal candidate
for this procedure would be someone who has dark hair and fair skin.
People with unnaturally tanned skin (too much tanning bed) can’t undergo
laser hair removal, either. The hairs’ melanin attracts the laser, but
unnaturally tan skin will overpower the laser’s attraction. This
attraction could lead to hyper-hypo pigmentation, which causes the skin’s
natural pigmentation to disappear.
Ingrown Hairs on Men: ingrown facial or neck hair, is known as shaving
bumps or pseudofolliculitis barbae. The bumps, painful when shaved, also
may discolor skin. Painful ingrown hairs are very common in
African-American, Caribbean-American, Middle-Eastern and Latin-American
men, and also can occur in women. The bumps develop anywhere hair is
shaven, plucked or tweezed, mostly on the face and neck. Tips prior to
your laser hair removal procedure: Grow the hair. Use barber scissors to
shave. Shave with a moisturizing gel immediately after you shower. Don't
use a razor blade more than a few times. Shave the area just once; don't
go over it. Avoid fragrant aftershave lotions that may irritate the skin.
Laser treatment for this affliction, federally approved for dark skin
types, is very effective.
